Situated in the beautiful Grazalema Natural Park in the Cadiz mountain range in Andalusia.
The peaceful rural setting makes it great place to relax and unwind. Much of the year, living can be partially outdoors, dining on the large front terrace that looks over the valley. At the back of the house there is an orchard and garden with a stream, and another terrace affording views up to the tops of the mountains behind.
Standing in 3 hectares of private grounds, the house has recently undergone a thorough renovation, carefully retaining the traditional style and character of the local architecture.
The ground floor consists of an open kitchen and dining area with a woodburning stove, living room with open fire, shower room and 2 bedrooms, one with a double bed and French windows onto the terrace, and the other with two single beds. Upstairs, there are 2 large double bedrooms and a bathroom with bath and shower. There is also a central study area with a balcony looking across the valley, and French windows to the garden behind.
Beyond the garden, the terrain is partially covered with fruit trees, these include citrus, olives, pomegranates, walnuts and quinces, while the rest is sown annually for sheep grazing.
The Natural Park is a wonderful environment for outdoor activities. Walks and cycle rides can begin from the house. Bird watching, horse riding and summer swimming can all be enjoyed among spectacular scenery. Day excursions can be made to a choice of beaches. There are important archaeological sites in the area. A variety of local events and fiestas take place throughout the year and should not be missed.
The nearest village is Grazalema, 15 minutes drive away. This is a well preserved pretty ‘white town’ nestling amongst the mountains at the heart of the Natural Park. It provides a good selection of shops for everyday needs as well as bars and restaurants. The nearby villages of Zahara, Setenil, Villaluenga and Benaocaz are also worth exploring, while Ubrique, with its tradition of designer leather goods manufacture offers a special shopping opportunity. The nearest town is Ronda, 1⁄2 hour away by car. It is famous as the ’birthplace of bullfighting’ and also known for its gorge and spectacular cliff-top position. Jerez de la Frontera and Arcos de la Frontera are medium size towns worthy of a day trip. The provincial capitals of Cadiz, Malaga, Seville, Cordoba and Granada, all offer an abundance of culture and history.
